OUTSIDE LANDS

A statement design that intends in highlighting and revealing the historical geological grounds of the park before introducing the novel landscape to the area and erecting the O’Shaughnessy Seawall. The sand formation underneath will be exposed rendered through sand paths, directly connecting the ocean beach with the park through a unique experience. In the Beginning, to implement the experience efficiently, three sharp incisions will take place through the O’Shaughnessy Seawall, not only allowing slowly the sand to infuse back inside the park but to expose the ground layers under the novel greenery, recalling the dunes experience that once existed before.

The three incisions will flow in linking 3 active park elements. First, touching the water at North lake creating a new aesthetics by combining sand with the picturesque theme of the park.  Second interacting actively with the Bercut Equitation Field, giving the horses access to the beach and new experiences to move through. Lastly linking with the dense forest area, highlighting them as the sand barrier, signifying the main function of the Golden Gate Park. One of the incisions will pass through the middle, a landmark building that allows the sand to infuse inside of it, allowing artists and the public to use interactive spaces for further artistic experimentation with the sand.

The incisions reflect a transect statement of the original grounds of the Golden Gate Park and its existing Picturesque Beauty landscape.
